Tempo was better
Cheat out
Sideways- forward ways
Noise for button – on elevator
TV room – oompa loompas move benches
after elevator scene – Alex, Reagan, Sunny, Riley
Ending needed work.
Freeze in an emotion, then when
unfreezing – continue with that motion.
Step on lines.
React to the kids’ rudeness.
Pull the second traveler for the
blueberry scene.
Look down on Charlie &
Grandpa.
We need a buzz when WW appears. EXCITEMENT.
Look at the ticket.
When the door closes, some people want
out. Reaction was good, but have Violet and Mom try to leave and WW steps in
the way.
React to Violet spitting gum on the
floor.
When Charlie says it’s the best day –
everyone react.
If the bean sign is behind you, turn
backwards to look at it. Then the boat sways more.
Maky
dollar in freeze
Great job today. You were involved in
every part of the show.
Great reactions throughout the show.
Gloop

Sunny
project and pull shoulders
back in the beginning
Think about using
something to make your nose purple.
Your brother said purple
marker on the gum.
Energy was down today
– probably because of basketball
Drag out the gum
scene.
Drew
be smug
Be more powerful with “right”
Be more involved in the show at all
times. We need to see your frustration
growing from the beginning to the exit.
Reese
Step on lines
We need to see your body involved
when you shoot the gun. Like getting ready to fight.
Try to shoot at the Oompa Loompas.
Try to shoot the squirrels.
Madder at your dad the two times WW
and he get on to you.
See you later alligator BEFORE you go
into the TV
Blake
Stress walk into the fence.
Be sadder with first candy bar
Carry excitement after finding the
ticket into the following scenes.
Why do you say Oh Yes when WW asks you
if you are ready?
If the bean sign is behind you, turn
backwards to look at it.
Jonah
Off to the chocolate factory – no pause
and don’t be sad. You are still
uplifted by the ticket
Leaning over & reading the ticket –
be old – we’ll give you the glasses.
Help maki down – old and polite.
Fall needs work.
On the “winning “ scene – you were in
profile so cheat out.
Riley
Use upstage hand on my mother
Play sick more
You are waiting too long to say your
first line and the other lines. A glutton
eats fast.
Love the different ways you say
chocolate.
Kadyn
Know you were tired – needed more
energy today – be more excited when you have ideas. We need to see your “tricks” in your face in the introduction.
Show us you handpicked Charlie.
Work on different gestures
You were a little squeaky at times.
Louder when you are US.
Work on fiery furnace line
You were good with Veruca – we could
see the control you had to have to act civilly to her. DO this with everyone
else. We need to see your frustration.
Be concerned at the beginning – giving
the coin to Bradleigh – it’s cold and snowy – the coin could be covered. Smile
when he picks up the coin. Watch him with Grandpa Joe.
Perhaps maybe one of these days? I don’t remember what this was, but check
for that line.
Reagan
Watch just using the profile- cheat
toward the audience.
Evan
Work on your anger growing through the
play.
Freeze was good, then you moved your
hand.
Great job with expression on desserts.
Look into your pocket to check if Mike is okay, look
at him, bring him out, listen to him, then shove him back in.
Reagan
Turn to Maky- we need to see your
face. We are losing all those good
expressions.
Grandpa Joe and Charlie
Too memorized at the beginning. Charlie go around Grandpa’s chair and put
your arms on his shoulder. Grandpa –
try several times to get out of your chair.
Be almost unbalanced when you get up.
Don’t sit at the same time. Charley react more
Don’t lose the happiness. Remember that this ticket is going to save
your lives.
React bigger to the kids’ rudeness.
There must be a BIG contrast between you guys and everyone else.
Ashlynn
React to the OOmpa Loompas better –
scared at first, then fascinated.
Grandpa, Charlie, Violet
Violet is being blocked when everyone
first meets WW.
Squirrels and people
More time with the squirrels. One squirrel stop and look at the people,
then another, then go back to squirrel business. Have an attitude.
TV room – work on this scene
Chocolate bar should appear sooner.
Everyone react to Charlie getting the
bar.
GP Joe – hard to get up.
Mini Mike – Grandpa and Charlie are
scared. Evan more frantic.
Oompa Loompas
Start the song at the elevator sooner.
Don’t wait. We will have new jobs for
you.
No jazz hands.
Boat people
Keep moving slowly across the stage –
swaying. Kadyn, tap the pole to tell
people below rowing to move faster.
Mike, Dad, Joe, Charlie
React to the fact that you are the only
ones left. Wonder why? Are you
frightened?
The end
Needs work – needs to build.

October 27 Critiques
October 27, 2013
The middle school one act play
kids will have a clinic on Tuesday, October 29 from 3:30 -5:30. We
will perform at approximately 4PM and we will keep them
through our regular rehearsal, ending at 7:30PM. If you are
bringing snacks on Tuesday, we may need to double up since kids will be
starving after the pressure of performing for judges. We will perform, be critiqued, then with our
regular rehearsal, we will work through the changes. Parents may watch the
performance and stay for critiques.
Again, I will have the kids from 2:30 PM until 7:30 PM on Tuesday,
October 29th.
The following day, Wednesday,
October 30, I need the students at 7:30 AM and we will finish at 11:15AM. We will perform about 8AM, and Dr. Border is
allowing us to watch Brownfield’s play.

When you are moving props – benches, Tv, ETC later, move quietly and
swiftly.
Bigger and crazier
For songs, step on the line before the song.
Put the cabbage more downstage of the garbage Chute.
Don’t move the tunnel until Drew is down it.
When you hit the benches for the glass elevator, start the Veruca
song. Do not hesitate.
When you finish the Veruca Salt song, start putting up the TV.
Only Ashlynn and Haylee holding up the TV. Only Bradleigh in the TV – Payton &

Be brattier when your mom gives you the paper
Maky

Smile and be embarrassed about your child, then be stern with Sunny
Put camera in your purse when not using it.
Squirrel head – we need it.
Drew
Be cocky with everyone but Veruca
Jonah and Blake
Just two pauses on reading the ticket. It was a little long with all the pauses.

Don’t block the garbage shoot.
Sit with bench at an angle
When discovering ticket, Blake you can say Hurray – not yes
First Hurray – Jonah
Second hurray – Blake
It’s off to the chocolate factory – Jonah – then hug Charlie with
tears toward the audience
Reese
Point at the gun at the OL’s when Veruca screams

October 15 Rehearsal
Excellent Job!!!! I admit I was worried Sunday.
Thanks to the alternates.
I appreciate how much you have worked – painting the set, working on
props, and writing critiques. You have
been invaluable.
Everyone
·
We need to start storing props in the back
with the gray set. We are at the end
of our $, and we still have over a month using the props. We need to be careful with them. The same goes for costumes, so be sure that
all your props and all your costumes are put up.
·
EVERYONE needs to be bigger and wackier except
for Grandpa and Charlie. Be over the
top! So much that I have to tell you
to tone it down.
·
Jonah & Reese moved at the beginning’s
freeze.
·
DO NOT WALK BEHIND THE CYCLORAMA
·
If you make a mistake in a line…just keep
going.
·
Quicker on the first walk. You must be back by
the time the music stops.
·
Oompa Loompas
·
Be more in sync with Augustus’s song
·
Each Oompa Loompa needs his/her own
personality. If you are another
character – it needs to be different from that one. Have these ready on Sunday. – like the
seven dwarfs.
·
Be careful that you are not seen at the
beginning.
·
Smile crazily during the songs and all the
time.
·
I want you CRAZY!!!
·
Reagan & Alex
Remember to switch with the signs for the boat.
Grandpa
Get a newspaper. We need to
find you reading glasses that you can wear around your neck.
Music
Elevator music needs to be longer. I will take care of this and get
Spencer another script – Spencer – we are killing dozens of trees L
We will try a gong after a child disappears.
Louder on the boat music until someone talks.
Different music at the end.
Drew
Ruder – not violent with WW.
Stay with your daughter.
Reagan
Cheat out to the audience more when Augustus disappears. We will fix
your dress.
Elevator people
Look forward and a little up when punching buttons.
Riley
Louder on “I’m hungry. I want to eat!”
Sneeze and cough more at different times.
We need to work on your costume.
It is all one color. We will
figure something out.
Fall more toward left stage at the beginning so you are not blocked
by the Teevees.
We will figure out something with the tube. It needs to be faster, but that was
impossible with the fat suit and hoola hoops.
Ashlyn
Slow down on the It’s impossible speech.
Scream all the way down the chute.
Look at script during the squirrel scene.
WW
Slow down on that means you’ve won.
Charlie & Grandpa
Make sure that you are not blocking one another.
When reading the ticket, let Grandpa help with big words.
Charlie
Be vocal when you find the Golden Ticket.
Look at your lines in the boat.
Lights
More light on the OOmpa Loompas
More light on Augustus at the river.
Do the best you can.
Squirrels & cabbage
Out earlier.
One Oompa loompa needs to pretend to sweep the cabbage out. Let’s put
the cabbage in a bushel basket. So, we need two OOmpa loompas doing the job.
Squirrels don’t worry about sliding down the slide.
Riley and Maky
Stay in character on the ladders.
Reese
In the television, I want you to strike several poses before you
disappear.
If you don’t remember to say See you later alligator, Lights and
Sound will miss their cues. They depend on you.
NEW ENDING
Charlie, Grandpa and Willy are the only ones left besides Oompa
Loompas.
WW
Which room shall it be next:
Hurry up! We must be
going! And how many children are left
now?Wonka looks around. Hmmmmmm!
Grandpa
I guess there’s only Charlie left now.
WW
You are the only one left?
Charlie
Why, yes.
WW explodes with excitement
But my dear boy, that means you’ve won! WW shakes Charlie’s hands vigorously.
Oh, I do congratulate you!
I really do! I’m absolutely
delighted! How wonderful this is!
I had a hunch, you know……right from the beginning….that it was going
to be you! Well done, Charlie…well
done!
WW looks around and motions to
the OLs. But we mustn’t dilly. OLs
nod and begin working…. Carrying bushel baskets here and there. And we
mustn’t dally! We have an enormous
number of things to do before the day is out!
Just think of the arrangements that have to be made!
One carries a huge bowl as
another OL stirs. Another places candy
on a baking pan.
Charlie
Wait, Mr. Wonka….I’m afraid I don’t understand all of this! What are you talking about?
WW
Oh…. Do forgive me! I get
carried away at times. I forgot that
you didn’t know….
Grandpa
Know what?
WW
I love my chocolate factory….. tell me, Charlie…Do you love my
chocolate factory? Think carefully
because it’s very important.
Charlie
Well, I’ve never spent a more fantastic day anywhere …. In my whole
life. Do I love this factory? Yes…. Yes, I think I do! It means a great deal to me!
Grandpa
Why do you ask?
WW
Well, of course Charlie and all of the others will receive all of the
candy I promised, but I want Charlie to receive much more! You see, this whole day has been a
contest. It’s been a contest to find
out who would be the best person for the job.
Charlie
What job!
WW
I would like for you and Grandpa Joe to move here and live here
permanently. I would like to have
someone who will take over…. After I’ve gone.
This would be after I’ve trained you and taught you everything I know,
of course! I’ve watched you all day,
and you are the type of person that will appreciate this factory and care for
it as I have, all these years. Will
you accept my offer? If you do,
everything that I have is yours!
Oompa Loompas bring aprons over
to Charlie and Grandpa and put a chef’s hat on Charlie
Charlie
Will I? Wow! This is more than
I could have ever imagined! Will I? Of
course I will, Willy Wonka! Thank
you! Thank you!
Just think of it, Grandpa Joe! It’s going to be our chocolate factory! Just think of all that chocolate! Oh, just you wait and see! |
