Tentative Schedule

The following dates are performances for middle school OAP:

December 5 –afternoon (do not know what time) MS performance

December 8 – public performance 3PM

December 11 – 9:30 –Intermediate performance

December 13 – contest

 

We will have rehearsal tomorrow, November 26, from 5 until 8PM because that is the last day to rehearse this week.  

We did not plan to have rehearsal Sunday, December 1, but we will from 3-4:30.  If there are conflicts, please let me know.  I have had a couple tell me that they could not come.  Please remind me who you were.

The next week , we have UIL contests earlier in the week, so we will  have rehearsal Thursday, December 5 (tentatively).

Changes in Schedule

Parents,

We will have a public performance Sunday, November 24 at 3PM.  Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for students and children.  We have made some positive changes and will continue to make changes until contest time.   If the weather is too bad to be on the roads, I will send an email probably Saturday evening. I had forgotten about Thanksgiving next week.  We will only have rehearsal on Tuesday evening, but it will be a long rehearsal – ending about 8:00.

For the next two weeks in December, we will rehearse often to prepare for contest on the thirteenth.  I will  discuss this with Dr. Border and will let you know Wednesday.  We will not have rehearsal, Sunday, December 1 as it is still part of the Thanksgiving holiday.  I have had parents who have let me know ahead of time that they will be travelling on that day.

Notes for November 10th

November 10, 2013

EVERYONE	Step on lines. Someone has to be doing something all the time on stage – no pregnant pauses. Squirrel scene – more people left stage.  Everyone needs to be louder More expressions – walk differently Stay frozen – Continue even if you mess up lines Quiet backstage NO STRAIGHT LINES Show drags with people going over ladders Evan helping Blake off the ladder? How can we justify this? Listen to whomever is speaking Listen to Kadyn and react. Work on reactions to the most important room. The show drags as Ashlynn goes over the ladder. Opening was good. Ladders coming into factory – Ashlynn, Drew, Sunny and Maky climb blue ladder; riley, reese, evan and Ms. Gloop orange ladder; Charlie and Grandpa joe on the one that is going faster. React to the chocolate room. We need one oompa loompa to appear right stage. Ashlynn – go to her so that we do not have everyone bunched up left stage. Everyone is responsible for props.  Give the props to the stage managers.  React to Mrs. Gloop.Reese react bigger. The boat is always moving. After squirrel scene, with “fiery furnace” move more right stage.
Kadyn	Lovely girl – hit lovely Make sure the last of your sentences are as loud as the beginnings.
Jonah	Change he to Wonka when talking about the factory 50cents is a big deal.
Maky	Say there’s Willy Wonka first.
Reese	Salute – see you later
Oompa Loompas	Move benches out for the elevator just a little -6 inches on both sides Last song like a commercial. During the squirrel scene, be doing something at all times.  Do something other than sitting on ladders.
TV scene	Work on blocking – spread out
Boat scene	Work on it.
Blue berry scene	Work on heads coming up
Grandpa Joe and Charlie	Happier after finding out about the ticket. Make the rest of the lines happy. When Willy is coming out from the factory to greet you, sit on a bench on the left side of Maky – more in front of where they are. Cheat out when Kadyn talks about cacow beans.
Blake	More excited when you see the money. We need to feel the cold along with Blake. Let’s see you plan the trick and make it bigger.
Music	Several cues were missed – need louder actors – If actors are talking, lower music. Music lower at the beginning so we can hear the words Missed cue in chocolate room. Music was late going to the boat scene.
Riley	Watch choppiness  Where is the squirrel head?
Lights	We missed you -  We need to see Riley in the chocolate river.
Drew	Stand by Ashlynn In the squirrel scene, be creative and think of things to do so that there is not a lot of dead time.
Jonah, Blake, Sunny, Maki, Drew, Ashlynn	Straight line during chocolate river – fix it.

Critiques for November 17, 2013

EVERYONE	Each actor must be individual and must be “bigger than life.” Gobstopper scene was supposed to be Center stage. Watch straight lines Boat was not swaying. Make sure that the stage is balanced. No pregnant pauses Ending didn’t work. Too much stomping during squirrel scene. BIGGER REACTIONS We are adding a factory scene at the end.
Oompa Loompas	Dance differently Bradleigh’s and Reagan’s trees look the same. Stage business needs to be in slo mo Grab the walnuts if they roll away. Smile while singing. Benches should slam together – elevator Elevator should be center stage. Stay out of the light – during elevator scene Sign holders stop moving. Chocolate room sign 1st dance – 2 on each side. Boat oar cannot touch floor – too loud. When OL’s move with signs going left to right, can they swim back with goggles going right to left? Change the TV scene in character Cabbage prop needs to be out sooner MOVE IN CHARACTER
Music	Too soon during elevator scene
Reagan	Giggle as you feed Riley Be in your costume. When frantic – cross to pipes, then come back

Blake	Bigger and slower on mmm.  You do not find the ticket until the music changes. Don’t block your face with gestures Pull your hat back. Gee differently each time. Don’t hand Jonah 50cents because you already spent it. Candy three times is what you tell Jonah, but you do it twice.
Jonah	Pull hat back Don’t block your face with gestures. Be consistently old throughout the play.
Drew and Ashlynn	Move a bench to sit on.  Drew cannot sit on the floor.
Blake and Jonah	Not your fault, but the part with you guys drags.   I think it is the dialogue.  I will look at it. You need to be happy.
Riley	Walk like a fat person.  Why did you say um yeah?
Evan	Great expressions, but make them bigger
Stage managers	Pylon covers need to face the audience more Lantern was off Make sure everyone is in full costume - Reagan

Changes on Rehearsals

Parents,

We have been thrown a loop by the football playoffs on Thursday.  For rehearsals, we will set them weekly until we are more settled – we hope football goes to State.

 

Tuesday night we will have rehearsal from 5-7:30.  We will also have rehearsal after school on Wednesday -3:30-4:45. .  Should there be a boys’ basketball game on Tuesday, we will still have a rehearsal Tuesday night.

We may have our performance on Sunday for parents at 2:30, then have rehearsal following it.  

Our schedule has been thrown off because we have not had our contest in December in a long time.   Please be patient.  We will try to let you know ahead of time.

November 7

Beginning next week, we will have rehearsals on Wednesday, directly after school for one hour; Thursdays from 5-7:30 and Sundays from 2-5:30. 

Our first public performance is Sunday, November 17 at 2PM.  I suggest that if you are inviting relatives, wait until the following Sunday, November 24.  We may be rusty the first performance. 

 

We do not need snacks on Wednesdays.  We will not rehearse during Thanksgiving.  

 

Seminole’s auditorium will not be ready, so contest will be in Shallowater on December 13.  I will send additional information later. 

 

T Shirts are in and are really clever. D’Ann McGuire did an amazing job.  These are $15.00 each and checks should be made to SISD.

October 30 Critique

 

Everyone	Tempo was better Cheat out Sideways- forward ways Noise for button – on elevator TV room – oompa loompas move benches after elevator scene – Alex, Reagan, Sunny, Riley Ending needed work. Freeze in an emotion, then when unfreezing – continue with that motion. Step on lines. React to the kids’ rudeness. Pull the second traveler for the blueberry scene. Look down on Charlie & Grandpa.  We need a buzz when WW appears.  EXCITEMENT.  Look at the ticket. When the door closes, some people want out. Reaction was good, but have Violet and Mom try to leave and WW steps in the way. React to Violet spitting gum on the floor. When Charlie says it’s the best day – everyone react. If the bean sign is behind you, turn backwards to look at it. Then the boat sways more.
Maky	dollar in freeze Great job today. You were involved in every part of the show. Great reactions throughout the show.
Gloop	shadow freeze
Sunny	project and pull shoulders back in the beginning Think about using something to make your nose purple. Your brother said purple marker on the gum. Energy was down today – probably because of basketball Drag out the gum scene.
Drew	be smug Be more powerful with “right” Be more involved in the show at all times.  We need to see your frustration growing from the beginning to the exit.
Reese	Step on lines We need to see your body involved when  you shoot the gun.  Like getting ready to fight. Try to shoot at the Oompa Loompas. Try to shoot the squirrels. Madder at your dad the two times WW and he get on to you. See you later alligator BEFORE you go into the TV
Blake	Stress walk into the fence. Be sadder with first candy bar Carry excitement after finding the ticket into the following scenes. Why do you say Oh Yes when WW asks you if you are ready? If the bean sign is behind you, turn backwards to look at it.
Jonah	Off to the chocolate factory – no pause and don’t be sad.  You are still uplifted by the ticket Leaning over & reading the ticket – be old – we’ll give you the glasses. Help maki down – old and polite. Fall needs work. On the “winning “ scene – you were in profile so cheat out.
Riley	Use upstage hand on my mother Play sick more You are waiting too long to say your first line and the other lines.  A glutton eats fast. Love the different ways you say chocolate.
Kadyn	Know you were tired – needed more energy today – be more excited when you have ideas.  We need to see your “tricks” in  your face in the introduction. Show us you handpicked Charlie. Work on different gestures You were a little squeaky at times. Louder when you are US. Work on fiery furnace line You were good with Veruca – we could see the control you had to have to act civilly to her. DO this with everyone else.  We need to see your frustration. Be concerned at the beginning – giving the coin to Bradleigh – it’s cold and snowy – the coin could be covered. Smile when he picks up the coin. Watch him with Grandpa Joe. Perhaps maybe one of these days?  I don’t remember what this was, but check for that line.
Reagan	Watch just using the profile- cheat toward the audience.
Evan	Work on your anger growing through the play. Freeze was good, then you moved your hand. Great job with expression on desserts. Look into  your pocket to check if Mike is okay, look at him, bring him out, listen to him, then shove him back in.
Reagan	Turn to Maky- we need to see your face.  We are losing all those good expressions.
Grandpa Joe and Charlie	Too memorized at the beginning.  Charlie go around Grandpa’s chair and put your arms on his shoulder.  Grandpa – try several times to get out of your chair.  Be almost unbalanced when you get up. Don’t sit at the same time.  Charley react more Don’t lose the happiness.  Remember that this ticket is going to save your lives. React bigger to the kids’ rudeness. There must be a BIG contrast between you guys and everyone else.
Ashlynn	React to the OOmpa Loompas better – scared at first, then fascinated.
Grandpa, Charlie, Violet	Violet is being blocked when everyone first meets WW.
Squirrels and people	More time with the squirrels.  One squirrel stop and look at the people, then another, then go back to squirrel business. Have an attitude.
TV room – work on this scene	Chocolate bar should appear sooner. Everyone react to Charlie getting the bar.  GP Joe – hard to get up. Mini Mike – Grandpa and Charlie are scared.   Evan more frantic.
Oompa Loompas	Start the song at the elevator sooner. Don’t wait.  We will have new jobs for you. No jazz hands.
Boat people	Keep moving slowly across the stage – swaying.  Kadyn, tap the pole to tell people below rowing to move faster.
Mike, Dad, Joe, Charlie	React to the fact that you are the only ones left. Wonder why?  Are you frightened?
The end	Needs work – needs to build.
