I hope that your
child/children understand the process of applying to audition for middle school
one act play. Today packets were available in the office as well as
Teresa Kuehler’s room. Students need to complete the packets; parents
need to initial each page, and an administrator needs to sign a portion of the
form attesting to their absences and tardies, etc. The packets are due
September 9, and students may either take them to the middle school office or
to Teresa Kuehler. Next to the packets is a calendar with rehearsals marked.
So, if your child did not pick up a packet with the calendar, he/she has
the opportunity to do so next week. On September 9, students may pick up
the scripts. Auditions are September 15th from 2-4/4:30 in the
high school auditorium. The first rehearsal is Tuesday, September 17 at
5PM.
In the calendar, rehearsals
are marked. We will always rehearse Sunday afternoons 2-4 or later
(it will not interfere with church) and Tuesdays from 5-7, or later. The
closer it gets to contest the more rehearsals we will have. After scripts
are memorized, we will rehearse Wednesdays 3;30-4:14 for those not in cross
country and from 3:30-4:15 on Fridays of home games. Right now, the
contest is slated for December 6th, and we do not know the
location.
Excused absences – students
are limited to three. Excused absences are illness; death; and participation in
another UIL event. Tardies – 3 tardies = 1 absence. Students
cannot miss rehearsals the week prior to contest unless it is for another UIL
academic event.
The easiest way to keep up
with schedules is to access Shallowater’s Chocolate Factory blog at http://shallowaterschocolatefactory.blogspot.com/
49 students have signed up to
be part of one act play. UIL limits us to 15 actors and 5 crew.
However, we usually carry extra students who can help organize, create props
and costumes, help with set design, poster design, program design, T shirt
design, and critique performances for each rehearsal. We need
understudies and alternates. Students who do not receive a part may want to
help with creative jobs this year and audition again next year. Michelle Lira,
a former student, began as a student who wrote critiques, and she was a stage
manager; she went on to star in plays in high school. Everyone who participates
in this endeavor creates the end product.
